IPOH (Nov 17, 2013): The Goods and Services Tax (GST) Monitoring Committee to be formed by the government end of this year will closely monitor its implementation and explain the concept right down to the grassroots level.
"We will not only brief the government agencies and non-governmental organisations but will also ensure that the people fully understand the new taxation system," Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah said after the Tambun parliamentary Deepavali Open House here today.
"We're actually lucky to be implementing the tax after 160 countries have done so, as we can learn from their experiences," he said.
The GST was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak during the Budget 2014 last month.
This single tax will be enforced on April 1, 2015 to replace the present Sales and Services Tax.
The only Asean countries who have not implemented the tax are Brunei, Myanmar and Malaysia. –Bernama
