Peaceful protest on price hike and GST

BUTTERWORTH (Jan 26, 2014): More than 1,000 people gathered outside Sunway Carnival Mall for Turun 2.0 to protest on the price hike and implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) here today.

PKR strategy director Rafizi Ramli, who led the protest, said more demonstrations will be held nationwide unless Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak reduces the prices of goods and lifts the GST.

He said the gatherings will continue with the climax being a gathering in Kuala Lumpur on May 1, where thousands are called to come forward to demonstrate on the matter.

Among those present included Turun 2.0 co-ordinator Khairul Ishak, Penang PKR Youth Chief Dr Afif Bahardin and Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin.

Gathering before 2pm, the group wearing either yellow or black clothing, brought bring placards and kangkung (water spinach) asking the Federal Government to fulfil their demands.

There were no untoward incidents at the gathering which ended at 4.35pm.
