KUALA LUMPUR: MCA Youth has proposed that the rate of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) be reduced from six per cent to four per cent.

It also proposed that the number of products excluded from the GST to be increased.

These were among the 17 resolutions adopted at the 49th MCA Youth Assembly here yesterday.

Members also passed a resolution against the electricity tariff hike.

They said Tenaga Nasional Bhd should maintain its corporate social responsibility by not contributing towards the inflation rate.

The wing called for more funds to be channelled to primary schools from all streams and proposed a RM200 million allocation for the 1,295 Chinese primary schools nationwide and RM20 million for national-type secondary schools.

On political matters, it passed resolutions against the drastic pay hike for the Selangor menteri besar, as well as for the speaker, deputy speaker, executive councillors and state assemblymen that it deemed unjustified.

"The decision should be re-looked," it said.
