KOTA BARU, April 7 — The Royal Malaysian Customs Department is confident that the Goods and Services Tax (GST) scheduled for implementation in April 2015 can give considerable benefits to all Malaysians.

Its Director-General, Datuk Seri Khazali Ahmad said the people would derive much benefits when the government used the GST as a system of taxation and waive the sales and service tax.

“This is a good system and it is the best package given by the government so that the people will not be burdened.

“The GST is not imposed on public transportation and other facilities such as hospitals and at the same time, we expect national revenue will also increase compared to the past,” he told reporters after chairing the 74th Meeting of Customs Directors at the Hotel Renaissance here today.

The triennial meeting is being held for three days beginning today until April 9 and is being attended by all Customs Directors throughout Malaysia. — Bernama
