KUALA LUMPUR: MCA has made several recommendations on the implementation of GST (Goods and Services Tax), including publishing a qualified software vendors list online.

A delegation led by party vice president Datuk Chua Tee Yong paid an official visit to the GST Implementation Office at the Finance Ministry and the Customs Department on Wednesday.

“I proposed that information on GST software training and the software’s subsidy mechanism be made available to the public.

“Also, the impact study on the implementation of GST on low, medium and high-income groups should be disclosed to the public so that they will have an idea of how the policy will affect their daily life,” added Chua.

He said the ministry agreed to conduct more briefings in cooperation with MCA, adding that the party’s Economic Consultative Committee, which he heads, would hold a session in Mandarin soon.

The visit was to follow up on developments in the implementation of GST and enquire about the request to exempt the monthly 300KWh of electricity usage from GST.

The delegation met Datuk Kamariah Hussain, the adviser of the GST Implementation Office.

“I was informed by Kamariah that her office is evaluating GST compliance software submitted by about 60 vendors.“The ministry has assured that there will be no monopoly in the application process,” said Chua in a press statement yesterday.
