KUALA LUMPUR: UMNO president Datuk Seri Najib Razak's keynote address at the opening of the party's annual general assembly not only served as an eye-opener to Umno delegates but also paints a clear picture of the party's future plans.

MCA secretary-general Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha said the speech served as an inspiration to the party's delegates and members.

"I can see the sincerity in Najib's speech. He wants to motivate Umno delegates to work hard for the good of Malaysia. He is also motivating BN component parties to move towards the next general election."

Kong said Najib's touching on the importance of national unity and co-operation between all races in the country would serve as a source of strength to all Barisan Nasional component parties.

People's Progressive Party (PPP) president Datuk Seri M. Kayveas said it was time for the Bumiputera community to stand united and stay strong.

He said Najib's speech has inspired hope in Umno members for them to stand up and take the party to greater heights.

"Now that the party president has voiced his concern, party members should be strong and stay united."

Kayveas said Najib's message was not only for the Malays, but for all Malaysians.

Gerakan president Datuk Mah Siew Keong said Najib's speech proved the government's seriousness and its commitment to the economic transformation programme, adding that Najib had concisely explained the importance of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and subsidy rationalisation initiatives.

"His speech covered all aspects of economic and social development."

Malaysian Indian United Party (MIUP) president Datuk S. Nalakaruppan said Najib's speech on unity was important to Umno.

"All three major races in the county -- the Malays, Chinese and Indians --must work together to preserve national sovereignty and national unity."

Malaysia Makkal Sakti Party president Datuk R.S. Thaneathiiran said the speech would serve as encouragement and to build the spirit of all members.

"The issue of transformation tabled by Najib has a lot of benefits.

"I plan to implement them within my party soon so that all members will be more confident."
