PERAK MCA wants the Government to ensure that the Goods and Services Tax (GST) will not adversely affect the middle and lower income groups.

It was one of the resolutions that was passed by state central delegates during the state party convention on Sunday.

While the state MCA agreed that the implementation of the GST was more transparent and fairer than the current sales and services tax (SST), they want the Government to come up with measures to assist the middle and lower income earners.

It was reported that the GST will replace the existing SST and will be implemented starting from April 1, 2015.

The announcement was made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak during the tabling of Budget 2014 in October.

In another resolution that is related to the country’s economy, the state MCA said it hoped all policies implemented by the Government would benefit the people regardless of their ethnicity.

The resolution also stated that no one should be neglected in the fair and just distribution of the country’s wealth and resources.

On education, it wants the Government to fully recognise the status of Chinese independent schools’ Unified Examination Certificate in the future.

They also said the state government should continue to provide various aids to vernacular schools and monitor the development of the education institutions.

Meanwhile, Perak MCA strongly condemned practices that advocated extremism and racism, and they want the Government to take stern action against those who attempt to disrupt racial harmony in the country.

They said they also hoped the Government could adopt a more open and moderate stand in tackling religious matters.

The members were reminded to stay united and adhere to MCA’s code of ethics during the party elections next month.
