Everybody including opposition happy with GST — Talib

SIBU: The introduction of Goods and Services Tax (GST) come 2015 is much lauded as even some of the opposition now agree with the equitable tax regime.

Assistant Tourism Minister Datuk Talib Zulpilip was reacting to PKR deputy president and Gombak MP Azmin Ali’s stand that GST was a transparent and efficient taxation system, capable of bringing good to the national economic system in the long run.

“Everyone pays tax where appropriate. Now, Azmin and Anwar (are) following suit, it is a good sign that politicking is reduced.

“We concentrate on getting the good idea implemented. Let us hear DAP and PAS come up with something sensible for a change rather than oppose and criticise for the sake of making noise as opposition,” Talib, who is Jepak assemblyman, said.

He noted that in developed countries, GST had been implemented for a long time.

He further explained that the usefulness of GST lies in its implementation.

“For example, we need the cooperation of everyone – taxpayers to pay and the business community to remit the tax to the tax authorities,” he noted.

Assistant Minister of Youth Development and Asajaya assemblyman Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah had said that GST was implemented in 160 countries around the world.
