‘Customs to use latest IT system to smoothen GST collection’

Posted on November 27, 2013, Wednesday

KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysian Customs will use the latest information technology system to smoothen the collection of Goods and Services Tax (GST).

Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed said the system was at the end-stage of development and expected to be fully ready by the end of next month.

“I am told the IT system for GST will be ready by the end of the year. The dry run will be done after that, in preparation for the implementation of GST.

“The more than one-and-a-half year early preparation from the date of the implementation of the GST shows the customs department is prepared and will give the people confidence that the collection of GST will be well carried,” he said.

He was speaking to reporters after a briefing by the Customs Department and Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) on tax collection and its preparation before implementation of GST at the PAC Room in Parliament here yesterday. — Bernama
