KUALA LUMPUR: All restaurants should be installed with closed circuit television cameras (CCTV) as a measure to curb the rising crime rate in the country, while the local authorities should come up with a law to get this implemented.

These two suggestions were among 18 resolutions passed by the Federal Territory MCA Youth at its annual general meeting here yesterday.

The other resolutions on crime prevention include urging the Government to put more pressure on the police force to combat the rising crime rate and install more CCTVs and street lights.

Delegates also urged the Health Ministry to consider giving free medical protection to Malaysians aged above 70.

In Selangor, the state MCA Youth passed a resolution urging the Government not to increase the 6% goods and services tax (GST) for the next five years from the date of its implementation.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had said that the GST would take effect from April 1, 2015.

The Selangor MCA Youth said capping the GST for the first five years would enable consumers and business people to adapt to it.

In Sabah, the state MCA Youth have been urged not to be over dependent on the social media in its bid to reach out to the people.

“We have to give people the personal touch. We must be present to tell them the real situation so that they will not be misled by all sorts of small talk, gossip, facts and non facts which are aplenty in the social media,” said Sabah MCA outgoing Youth chief Wilfred Yong at the state Youth AGM in Kota Kinabalu yesterday.
