Several car park operators in the Klang Valley have allegedly implemented the goods and services tax (GST) although the government has yet to officially roll it out.

Opposition Batu MP Tian Chua said that a car park operator at the Kuala Lumpur Wholesale Market in Selayang has already incorporated GST in its parking fees by adding 6% to the original amount.

"I have been informed by sources that this particular operator has implemented the GST for almost two years," he said in a statement today.

He asked if the collection had reached the government.

"Kuala Lumpur City Hall awarded the company the tender to manage the parking at the market for the past nine years.

"Did they (DBKL) not notice the company's actions?" he said.

Tian Chua also asked if City Hall would now conduct an audit check on the company managing the property.

"Many in the city area seem to have been paying GST without realising it."

Tian Chua, who is PKR vice-president, urged the government to act upon unscrupulous parties looking to make profit by victimising consumers.

He urged the public to check their receipts after paying for goods and services and immediately file a complaint to the authorities should they notice GST included in the bills. - October 22, 2013.
